Nagraj Manjule needs no introduction when it comes to Marathi Movies world. He is a known filmmaker and screenwriter and is popular for his first film called Pistulya. He comes from a very small village based in Maharashtra near Solapur known Jeur Tal Village from Karmala Taluka. He was born on 24th August 1974 and did his schooling from Ahmednagar, while went on to pursue his BA and then MA in Marathi literature from Pune University followed by Masters in communication studies from the known New Arts, Science and Commerce College, from Ahmednagar. He has written and directed a number of movies including the National Award winner film called Fandry.

Besides, he is also a poet and writer and even published a book of his in Marathi known as Kata virudhha winning the prestigious award – Bhairuratan Damani Sahitya Puraskar. His career started with a short film Pistulya, which gave him the National Award for the said movie, while in the mainstream Marathi movie he did his opening from Fandry in the year 2014. Fandry simply means Pig in the language of Kaikadi, which is still known to be heard in an untouchable community in Maharashtra. His film also got the First Short Film Award for Pistulya apart from getting a number of other awards including the 58th National Film Award.

Apart from directing the films, he also acted in a couple of films including Highway, Silence and Baji, while the recently released film Sairat was directed by this man. The film has reached to a couple of Film Festivals not just of the domestic ones but also the ones belonging to the overseas market including at Berlin and other places. His book of poetry also gave him a number of literary awards including Bhairuratan Damani Sahitya Puraskar, Yashwantrao Chavansahitya Puraskar, Dr. Anil Awachat Smruti Sangharsh Sanman, Prakash Dhere Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar, Narayan Surve Kavya Pratibha Puraskar and Daya Pawar Smruti Puraskar. This simply speaks volume about his expertise in literature and art.
