Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2 Marathi Movie Review

Straight and Simple Film with not much of Innovation in it

The film Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2 has been one of the most awaited sequels of 2015. The film has Swapnil Joshi and Mukta Barve in the pivotal roles, which is a sequel of the 2010 film with the same title. The film is directed and written by Satish Rajwade, while it is produced under the banner of Yashilita Enterprises Pvt Ltd. The film also has actors like Prashant Damle, Vijay Kenkre, Mangal Kenkre, Asawari Joshi, Savita Prabhune, Suhas Joshi and Shruti Marathe in supporting roles. The music comes from the talented Avinash-Vishwajeet. Now. Let’s dig in deep into the film to get the crux of the same.

Plot

The prequel of the movie interestingly was confined to one day, however, the sequel revolves around the span of six months. The MPM2 starts the same day when the prequel was left. The lead stars – Gautam (Swapnil Joshi) and Gauri (Mukta Barve) are seen going out with their families as both of their parents have given their consents for the marriage. So, you have a film, which starts with the day of consent for the marriage to the real marriage really working out for the lovebirds. You find the film amidst all the puns and humours, which are based on the lives of Mumbaites and Punites making the audience, laugh a loud (LOL). So, the film is all about a wedding between spouses coming from two different cities, which becomes the central plot for the film. Amidst all the roller coaster ride, the film takes a good climax making people laugh on every day jokes in local slangs.

Script Analysis

The story is short and sweet and so is the content with not much of complication. Since it is a family based film keeping the marriage as the central theme, the movie is a clean entertainer. You could laugh a lot with the everyday humours portrayed in a typical local accent suiting to Mumbai and Pune crowds. However, the film lags behind the content, which in intriguing; you may not find the usual melodrama, out of the box story and other elements, which makes any film a complete entertainer. Thus most of the time, the film remain predictable and with usual humours coming in a natural way, the film turned out to be a tolerant one for the audience.

Star Performances

Starting with the chemistry of the lead stars (Swapnil and Mukta), it was simply brilliantly showcased by the actors. Unlike the prequel, the two were simply outstanding over the silver screen and left no opportunity to do things not just with utter professionalism but with great dexterity. You love the debate the two pose while defending their city and making them feel proud about the same. The other in the supporting roles- like the Prashant Damle in father’s role while Suhas Joshi in loving granny role along with Savita in the bride’s mother, etc was also decent over the silver screen.

Direction, Screenplay, music and other technical elements

Since the choice of lead actors was simply amazing, hence the role of director to pull out something extraordinary over the silver screen simply reduces to a great extent. The direction though has not much of the flaws yet cannot be called as an extraordinary. Similarly, the music and songs of the film too are nothing less than average and similar is the story with technical elements like editing, screenplay and other stuff. All in all, the content was okay, the performance was better but the film has not much to make it a big hit over the box office.

Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2 – Last Word

Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2 is a very much straightforward film, with simple story and usual day to day humour to catch in it. The Mumbai-Pune debate by the groom and bride often makes the audience at large but in terms of something unique dies down. Somehow, the film gives a feeling of a B Town film based on Mumbai and Delhi thus losing the concept of originality in it. At such an helm of affair, when Marathi Cinema has become too mature to embark with quality films, MPM2 seems lagging behind on those parameters. Hence it doesn’t deserve a higher rating than 2.5.

Rating – 2.5
