Lokmanya Tilak, the exemplary Indian freedom fighter who laid down many innovative systems in the society has been portrayed on the screen by Subhodh Bhave in Lokmanya – Ek Yugpurush. It is a sincere effort on the part of the film makers to bring to light the valuable contribution of one of the most significant leaders during the freedom struggle against the British. Lokmanya Tilak did not only work towards India’s freedom but he also made efforts to unite the people in various ways. All these aspects of the character have been skillfully portrayed by the actor Subhodh Bhave who delivers his best performance till date.
Lokmanya – Ek Yugpurush brings to light the spirit of the great man who was undeterred in the face of trouble in the form of opposition of the British rule. His efforts to initiate Collective celebration of Ganesh Utsav and New English School. Lokmanya was a visionary as well as an educationist. His publishing of the newspaper Kesari and all other of his major works are included in the story. Subhodh Bhave at each stage of the story, not only looks each bit as the legendary character but also enacts the intricacies of the time. Being a periodic film, the writers and director deserve a big applause for giving a close observation of the historic incidences and translating them in the script. Periodic films are responsibility in their own league for all the facts and figures have to be adhered to. In a film in which the Lokmanya Tilak’s portrayal had to be most convincing and powerful Subhodh Bhave plays the part in an exemplary manner. The national award winning actor has once again impressed every one with his impactful performance. He could not be more realistic with his expressions and dialogue delivery.
Sameer Vidwan and Angad Mhanskar played the roles of Gopal Ganesh Agarkar and Daji Khare convincingly. Chinmey Mandlekar plays a journalist through whom the story of the historic figure is revealed. The costume designers and makeup artist also deserve kudos for their diligent work in the film. Directors Om Raut and Kaushtubh Savarkar had a brilliant script at hand which they succeeded at executing. They deserve the credit for not only bringing together brilliant performances but also for tackling the subject which required mature hands.
