Avadhoot Gupte’s Ek Tara takes inspiration from Bollywood film Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar. The world of glitz and glamour misleads a young singing star , Mauli , and lands him in a miserable state. Santhosh Juvekar plays s potential role in the film which has no originality and it also lacks a gripping plot to keep the audience glued to the screen.
Santosh Juvekar’s plays Mauli , a talented budding singer who takes part in a musical reality show and wins it thanks to his extraordinary singing talents. He becomes a singing sensation overnight. This is re mindful of hit films like Ashiqui and Rockstar and even Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion which is based on the same story line of tracking the emergence of a star. As expected , the star turns into a villain in his personal life wherein he takes his stardom too seriously and indulgences in luxury and pleasure. His personal life goes for a toss and leaves him in lurch following the breaking apart of his marriage. He turns into an abusive husband and a hedonist and throws all care to the winds. But life teaches valuable lessons to this erring artist and he returns as a humble penitent to his wife and family.
The story is extremely predictable and clichéd. The music fails to impress you beyond a certain limit. Though it is a film where music is predominantly important, yet you are left completely unimpressed by the songs. The script writer Sachin Dharkar has tried to create a saga for music lovers but the there is a clear lack of originality and substance in this story. Avadhooth Gupte seems to have put lot of passion into this but not enough brains. The film is a disappointment from the sides of performances as well. Santosh Juvekar , who is otherwise a talented actor, does get a potential role but due to a loose script, he fails to impress. The actresses namely Tejaswini Pandit and Urmila Nimbalkar also fail to give a convincing performance.
There is nothing that you would take home you from this film which has no humour or touching moments. Nor does it provoke any emotions in the audience. Music of the film is utterly disappointing To sum it up, the director Avdhoot Gupte, whose brain child the film is, has left out a very important ingredient which is little smartness. Don’t waste your time for this film even if you are a music lover.
