Dilip Prabhavalkar Biography
Dilip is a veteran thespian in India whose leaves no issue in human life and in the country untouched in his plays and films. The glitz and glamour attached to acting more than often make us neglect the contributions of quality actors like Dilip Prabhavalkar who has spent more than half of their lives presenting different shades of life on stage and films. For those who are not familiar with theater and Marathi cinema, Prabhavalkar is known to them as the person who played the role of none other than Gandhiji in the Sanjay Dutt starrer film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The film gave us the slang word ” Ganghigiri” and revised the ideals of the great soul for the young generation of India. The actor was highly lauded for this performance and he received the FilmFare award for best supporting actor that year. But this small award is like a drop in the ocean for a person who has dedicated himself to theatres and has been honored with numerable awards by the state of Maharashtra and the nation.

He has been a part of plays of masters of Marathi and Hindi play writes like Vijay Tendulkar and Ratnakar Matkari. his work in the Hindi cinema includes Lage Raho Munna Bhai , Chhupke Se and Sarkar Raj to name a few. He has authoured a book titled Bokya Satbande which is again children’s literature. In 2009, it was made into a Marathi film in which Prabhavalkar played the role of the boy’s grandfather. The major chunk of his work has been in Marathi in which he has been honored with various awards. In the year 1991, he won the award for best actor for the film Chaukat Raja in which he played a mentally challenged man. The film raised the actor to new heights as his work was acknowledged as superior by one and all.
